Park Life presents Daytime Forever, a playful look at three emerging artists’ works that conjure nostalgia and exploration. Matt Haber’s colorful acrylic 2- and 3-D works are rife with narrative and movement and compliment Holly Stevenson’s subtle, conceptual mixed media pieces. Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch’s delicate and spooky gouache pieces finish off the trio for a dynamic preview of some of the hottest artists out there today.
About the Artists
Matt Haber utilizes the narrative tradition developed in cartoons and comic books to create character-driven works that reflect a range of emotion. His doll-like figures wander through giant forests and stage-like settings exploring ethic and moral dilemmas. In his world, characters are neither good nor bad, but both. Existing on a planet which houses all types including children from tribes, sailors, sorcerers, carnies and dinosaurs there erupts conflict and discovery. The maternal current is strong throughout his work where characters are seen taking care of, helping and nurturing each other quite often.
Matt Haber’s studies at RISD and experience at Walt Disney Animation have shaped his storytelling insight and colorful style. He is currently working as a painter in New York and has shown in numerous galleries across the country.
Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch’s narrative work explores themes ranging from adolescence, personal apprehension, inconsistency and public lore. Holyoke-Hirsch founded his illustration studio shortly after graduating high school in 2002. He currently lives and works in San Diego, California.
Holly Stevenson is an artist living and working in New York City. She holds a BFA from Pratt Institute and currently teaches design at Parsons. Her work has appeared in publications such as Arkitip, Nylon and Studio Voice. Nieves press recently published her book, Mexican Love Story.
